Sparse Grey Hackle – The Anglers’ Club of New York – 1993 – Limited Edition with Ephemera
1 in stock
Sparse Grey Hackle – Austin Francis & The Anglers’ Club of New York – 1993. A limited first edition of 300 copies from the Anglers’ Club, as a tribute to the infamous angler, author, and all-around character Sparse Grey Hackle (Alfred Miller). Includes both stories about Sparse and stories that he wrote over the years, including for the Anglers’ Club Bulletin. Frontispiece from a photograph of Sparse Grey Hackle fly fishing mid-stream while smoking his pipe. With the book are the original advertising booklet announcing the book for purchase by members of the ACNY and a letter from The Woman Flyfishers Club announcing the sale of the book to its members. Notably, for 77 years, ACNY only sold private editions to its members, but this book broke tradition, as Louise Brewster Miller, Sparse’s wife and to whom the book is dedicated, was an avid member of the Woman Flyfishers. In original slip case with paper label at spine. Blue cloth boards, also with paper label wrapping from spine to front cover. In fine condition. Case with various marks/soiling and minor wear–VG condition. The book is exactly as pictured. Any questions, please ask.
