Messrs Bat and Ball – Norman Gale – 1930. A rare first edition in general, but this the most unique combination likely ever offered publicly. In original dust jacket. Signed by the author to Harrison Morris of Philadelphia on the half title. Morris was an author, the editor of Lipincott’s Magazine, the managing director of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and member of the Philadelphia Board of Education. He mainly penned fiction, poetry, and biographies, including those of Walt Whitman and William Trost Richards. Book includes is a letter written from Gale to Morris, covering various topics, including the writing of this book, and signed at the bottom. The letter is in the original mailing envelope, which is adhered to the FFEP. Laid in at rear is part of an envelope or package addressed to Morris from Gale. Book is a collection of poetry concerning the sport of cricket by Norman Gale, who was a prolific poet featured in the popular publication ‘The Yellow Book’. This anthology shares a passion for the sport with entertaining poems dedicated to aspects of cricket. DJ unclipped, with only a few small marks.
