1 in stock
‘Fishing’, an original painting by Ronald F. Cosimini. Cosimini was a Massachusetts native who dabbled in various media types, including woodblock prints, pastels, and others. This a mixed-media work (watercolor with highlights in pen/pencil), measuring 15″ x 15″, with a visible area of approx. 10.5″x10.5″. It depicts an angler with a bent fly rod in one hand, presumably due to the weight of a fish, which he is netting with his other hand while standing in a river, with a nearby boulder. The piece was originally created for the April 1933 issue of The Sportsman, which features articles by Bernard Darwin (golf), Nash Buckingham (shooting/hunting), Eugene Connett (fishing), Howard Ernst (angling), and others. The painting adorns the cover of this issue. Many years later, in 1992, the painting was used as the cover art for ‘Trout Magic’ by John Voelker (Robert Traver). This was a special reissue published under Voelker’s real name, unlike the 1974 first edition, to commemorate his passing one year earlier. The book is otherwise illustrated by the legendary Milton C. Weiler. This rare set includes the original painting, an original copy of The Sportsman from April 1933, a poster ad for this edition of The Sportsman, and the 1992 edition of ‘Trout Magic’ in unclipped dust jacket.
The painting will be framed in a rich brown wooden frame with glass and mat (due to arrive 2/4). Painting in near mint condition. The issue of The Sportsman has some minor wear and light cover soiling, but very good condition or better. The poster has some tape residue at the top and bottom and some markings at the edges but is in very good condition. The book is fine in a fine, unclipped DJ wrapped in mylar. The items are exactly as pictured. Any questions, please ask.
