Favorite Flies – Mary Orvis Marbury – 1892. A classic first edition from the daughter of Charles Orvis, whose legacy should not be overshadowed. The book was written and compiled from her father’s correspondence. Charles F. Orvis was a famed American tackle-maker and author of “Fishing With the Fly” (1883). Although Marbury was “not herself a fisher-woman, she was an expert at making flies, which she tied without the aid of a vise. With 32 colored plates of flies, six engravings of natural insects, and eight reproductions of photographs. Her flies, fly plates, and photographs and prints of those plates have become legendary in the field, recently being featured in the book ‘Mary Orvis Marbury: A Life in Flies’ by Steve Woit. Green cloth boards with lighter green wrap at spine, gilt flies and lettering, and various accents. Gilt upper page edge. Some light rubbing, bumping, and shelf wear. Bubbling of cover at spine. Splitting at joints, most notable at front. Otherwise, a very clean copy internally. The book is exactly as pictured. Any questions, please ask.
