The Angler’s Companion – Thomas Stoddart – 1847; 1st edition with fine binding and Bernard Horne provenance
Out of stock
The Angler’s Companion, to the Rivers and Lochs of Scotland – Thomas Stoddart – 1847. A first edition, from William Blackwood and Sons. Formerly of the collection of Bernard S. Horne, with his bookplate laid in. Horne was, among other things, an angling scholar and author, with a focus on Izaak Walton and the Compleat Angler. Notably, he wrote ‘The Compleat Angler 1653-1967: A New Bibliography’. A detailed guide to angling in Scotland, a premier trout and salmon destination in Europe. With large folding engraved map with hand-colored outline, an engraved frontis, a hand-colored plate of flies, & several other illustrations. Bound in beautiful half leather with marbled boards and gilt lettering, accents, and upper page edge. Map not without flaws, such as foxing and general wear, but good to very good condition. Shelf wear to covers, especially corners. Internally, a nice clean copy, with a couple marks at top of last page. Marbled EPs. Likely near fine condition. The book is exactly as pictured. Any questions, please ask.
