Pokanoket Club – Dover, MA – 1899-1931. A club history through 1931. The Pokanoket Club was founded in 1899 to provide “a small country gathering place” for men to engage in outdoor activities, such as golf, tennis, fishing, hunting, etc. The club disbanded in 1942 yet left a mark as a formidable club in the southern greater Boston area, bordering the Cape Cod region. With chapters on the constitution, officers, members, history, war records, and more. Stunning cover with embossed gilt club emblem (a raccoon) and gilt lettering. Tan paper boards with wrap at spine, beneath old tanned jacket. Some browning to EPs, else clean and bright. Near fine condition. Formerly of the collection of a New England sporting author, decoy expert, and ornithological enthusiast. Laid in is the bookplate of former owner Raymond A. Pettey, most known for planting the infamous Dartmouth daffodil fields during the 1940s. The book is exactly as pictured. Any questions, please ask.
