Lawn-Tennis – Dwight – 1886 – 1st Edition
1 in stock
Lawn-Tennis – Dwight – 1886. A rare first edition. Penned by the American who won the first recorded tennis tournament in the US and who was known as the founding father of American tennis. Dwight introduced the sport in America after an 1874 trip to Europe. He founded the US National Lawn Tennis Association and won five national doubles titles from 1882-1884. Various illustrations and ads, including for Slazenger & Sons, F. H. Ayres, etc. Gray cloth boards with black titles. Covers notably discolored, with various markings and edge wear. Internally, pages brown in hue, as is common with this title. Former owner inscription and signature. EPs with foxing and other marks. Some sort of insect or rodent damage to approximately 11 pages at start of book (plus prelims) and 16 pages at end of book. Thankfully, mainly limited to the margin, as shown. Slight separation at block toward center of book, not affecting soundness. Consequently, fair condition, as reflected by the price. The book is exactly as pictured. Any questions, please ask.
