Hunting in East and West Africa – Charles & Richard Curtis – 1925 1st Ed. w/ Long Author Letter
1 in stock
Hunting in East and West Africa – Charles P. Curtis & Richard C. Curtis – 1925. A classic first edition of big game hunting in Africa. Laid in is a true gem: a 6-page handwritten letter from Charles Curtis, signed on the last page. Sent to a hunting buddy back in the United States. The letter discusses recent hunts, including for giant sable antelope, travels in Africa, the poverty and atrocities witnessed during his travels, and preparation for trips, among other short topics. The letter was sent from Angola, the Coast of Rio de Oro, where the antelope hunt had occurred. Original envelope pasted to first prelim page, with letter within. A copy of the transcribed letter also laid in, as original handwriting is challenging to read. Orange cloth boards with illustration and lettering in black. Slight discoloration at spine, with light rubbing and bumping. Internally, some spots of browning to front EPs. A couple pages with small marks or edge wear, but limited and few. First illustration with some lower separation. A few pages approximately halfway through book with what looks like a burn mark at extreme lower edge, limited. Slight lean. Generally clean and bright. Some light foxing externally at page edges. VG condition. Truly one of a kind. The book is exactly as pictured. Any questions, please ask.
