Lengthy inscription on FFEP from Sparse Grey Hackle (Alfred Miller) to Frank Woolner. Sparse has deep ties to the DeBruce Club in the Catskills and the Anglers’ Club of New York and has authored numerous books on fly fishing. Woolner was also a sporting author and New Englander, writing books on fishing, hunting, natural history, and conservation. Apparently, Sparse was quite fond of this work by Thompson and became an unofficial promoter, of sorts. The book covers ways to target trout, striped bass, and other species in New England waters, particularly via fly fishing. Various illustrations, including color plates of aquatic insects.
