Big Stony – Howard Walden – 1940. A Derrydale Press title limited to 550 copies, illustrated by Milton C. Weiler. This the unnumbered artist’s copy, from Weiler’s private library (thus, unsigned). Weiler Sr. was one of the premier sporting artists of his time, known for his work with the Derrydale Press and many other sporting publishers. He was also an avid outdoorsman, with deep roots to the Anglers’ Club of New York and the DeBruce Fly Fishing Club in the Catskills. Emphasizing the value of friendship, followed closely by fly fishing. Dark blue, nearly black boards with gilt flies, accents, and lettering. Illustration of trout pasted to front. Light cover wear and rubbing. Some browning and marks to EPs. Hinges with slight feel of being overopened. Otherwise, a beautiful copy. VG+ or better condition. The book is exactly as pictured.
