Barry was the first to approach and write about wines and winemaking from a scientific perspective. Interesting provenance, as the cover bears the emblem of the British chilvaric Order of the Garter, the highest of all British knighthoods. Leather cover with gilt lettering, accents, etc. Label at spine. Front cover detached. Both covers flaking, with considerable chipping and edge wear, plus bumped corners. Internally, foxing and damp staining to EPs, prelims, and some adjacent pages at front and rear. Overall, however, the bulk of the text is clean and bright, with an occasional spot of foxing.
