Upstream and Down – Howard Walden – 1938. A limited edition from the Derrydale Press, number 399 of 950. Inscribed and signed from Walden on half-title. On first prelim page, there is short inscription from sporting artist Milton C. Weiler, the artist whose illustrations were used in the book. The inscription is signed and accompanied by an original watercolor painting of a fly fisherman. Weiler Sr. was one of the premier sporting artists of his time, known for his work with the Derrydale Press and many other sporting publishers. He was also an avid outdoorsman, with deep roots to the Anglers’ Club of New York and the DeBruce Fly Fishing Club in the Catskills.
Stories of fly fishing for trout, and other related topics, some more philosophical than sport. Dark blue, nearly black boards, with trout illustration adhered to front. Cover with some rubbing and wear. Paper cracked internally at both hinges. Some browning to EPs and light foxing sporadic internally. Good plus condition. The book is exactly as pictured.
