The American Angler – Volume 1 – 1881 – Largemouth Black Bass
1 in stock
The American Angler – November 19, 1881 – volume 1, number 2. One of the very first issues of this historic angling publication in the United States. Featuring a largemouth bass (black bass) illustrated at the top of the front cover, with a specific focus on black bass. Notably, the issue focuses in part on Dr. James Henshall, who published his first edition of ‘The Book of the Black Bass’ that year. This work was among the first to differentiate between largemouth and smallmouth bass. This issue also includes articles about trout, tarpon, and other species. Extraordinarily rare. A few marks around edges, and a small fold at lower right corner. Spots of foxing/browning scattered throughout, with an old water stain at top center (above text; light at cover, and heavier within). Tear along spine, leading to some disconnection and general fragility. Totaling 32 pages. Very good condition. The item is exactly as pictured. Any questions, please ask.
