How to Train Dogs and Cats: Hints on Shooting and Hunting Game – Frederick H. Erb, Jr. – 1904. A scarce first edition about small game and bird hunting, upland shooting, and dog and cat training. Yes, that’s right–cats. Anyone can train a dog, but training a cat takes a special skillset, one that you can learn about in this little gem. Erb was a jockey at a young age (his father a horse trainer, among other endeavors), eventually becoming a notable trap and live pigeon shooter, besting Capt. Adam Bogardus in competition by a score of 93 to 83 and earning the title of world champion. Eventually, his focus shifted to dogs and dog training, developing unique techniques and some of the finest, most credentialed stock in America. His kennels, in Indiana, attracted interest worldwide, largely due to his many connections through competitive shooting and the success of his dogs in competitions and in the field. The book spans as many topics as almost any I have ever seen: dog and cat training, woodcock, grouse, plovers, prairie chickens, shooting, beagles, pointers, setters, the author’s achievements, competitive shooting, firearms, and many more.
Green cloth boards with gilt accents and lettering, with B&W photographic plate of Erb and a set of dogs adhered to front. General shelf wear to covers. Internally, an occasional mark, but quite clean. VG+, approaching NF condition. The book is exactly as pictured. Any questions, please ask.
