Wheatley Silmalloy metal fly box filled with 18 flies from the vise of Austin Hogan. Laid in his Hogan’s personal card. Hogan, an Adirondack native, was a man of many accomplishments, becoming one of the foremost historians of American fly fishing, with long ties to the American Museum of Fly Fishing in Manchester, Vermont, and The Orvis Company. He published countless articles and books on fly fishing and was a contributor, editor, and source for many more by authors such as George Grant, Joseph Bates, Paul Schullery, Arnold Gingrich, Dana Lamb, Charles Brooks, and Roderick Haig-Brown, among many others. In addition, he helped launch American Fly Fisher with the AMFF. He was also an artist and avid tyer, known for researching patterns from Europe and testing different materials, often via keen observation in, on, and below the water.
