A Game of Golf – Francis Ouimet – 1963 Signed w/ Dust Jacket, Ephemera, and Provenance
1 in stock
A Game of Golf: A Book of Reminiscence – Francis Ouimet – 1963. With original dust jacket. Signed by the author on the half title beneath brief inscription. Ouimet is considered the “Father of Amateur Golf” and was the winner of the 1913 US Open. As one of the most storied victories in golf history, Ouimet was victorious at his home course of The Country Club at Brookline. He famously employed his 10-year old caddy Eddie Lowery for the event, with an image of the pair walking with the bag that day on one of the prelim pages, opposite the title page. Laid in is a card from Timothy J. Eliason, who at the time was becoming fascinated with golf upon working at The Country Club, purchasing the book from TCC member Louis Newell, whose signature is on the FFEP. Newell was, among other things, a historian at the TCC along with Elmer Cappers. As noted in various articles, Newell and Ouimet were friends, playing golf together on occasion. DJ with edge wear. Slightly off kilter, with some fading at spine. Internally nearly flawless. Some dust spots externally at top page edge. Book VG+ to near fine, and DJ good. The book is exactly as pictured. Any questions, please ask.
