Montana Trout Flies & Master Fly Weaver – George Grant – Signed Ltd. 1st Ed. w/ Letter & Rare Provenance
1 in stock
Montana Trout Flies & Master Fly Weaver – George Grant – 1980 and 1981. A set of limited first editions from illustrious western fly tyer and angler George Grant. Limited editions of 1950 copies each, these numbered 565 and ‘Author’. Both books are signed from Grant and the illustrator, Harvey Eckert, with short inscriptions by each to Austin Hogan. Hogan was a many of many accomplishments, becoming one of the foremost historians of American fly fishing, with long ties to the American Museum of Fly Fishing in Manchester, Vermont, and The Orivs Company. He published countless articles and books on fly fishing and was a contributor, editor, and source for many more by authors such as Grant, Joseph Bates, Paul Schullery, Arnold Gingrich, Dana Lamb, and Roderick Haig-Brown, among many others. Next to Eckert’s signature is a small remarque-style sketch–a stone fly in one book and a wet fly in the other. Laid in is a typed and hand-signed letter from Grant to Austin Hogan. The letter discusses an upcoming publication by Grant, seeking Hogan’s advice on certain topics, and noting the quote taken from Haig-Brown. A one-of-a-kind set. Color plates present at rear of both books. Covers with a few light marks. Internally, an occassional area of light foxing near page edges. Near fine condition. The Books are exactly as pictured.
